iPhone3g.co.za would like to wish all Muslims a Ramadhaan Mubarak. Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان) (also written Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan, Ramdan, Ramadaan) is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims refrain from eating, drinking, sexual conduct, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in excess or ill-natured; from dawn until sunset. Fasting is meant to teach the Muslim patience, modesty and spirituality. Ramaḍān is a time to fast for the sake of Allah, and to offer more prayer than usual. Muslims also believed through good actions, they get rewarded seventy times as much as they normally can achieve. During Ramaḍān, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds. As compared to solar calendar, the dates of Ramadan vary, moving forward about ten days each year. Ramadhan was the month in which the first verses of the Qur’an were revealedto the Prophet Muhammad.

Windows 95 on the iPhone, now thats a step back in time. A developer found a way to run Win 95 on his iPhone using the virtual iPhone. Wether this is of any use or not will only be proven with time, but one thing for sure is that if Win95 runs on the run then why stop there. Lets get OS X running now guys.
Did you know that to accent a letter? The name “Chloe”, for example, may need an “acute” accent above the “e”, for example: “é”. To do this, just hold down the “e” key and a pop-up will give you several options to choose from, as shown below.
Screen Captures
Your iPhone also includes a screen capture option. Very useful when you just want a quick picture for future reference, just go to the page you want to photograph, make sure you can clearly see what you want your picture to be of then, while holding down the Home button and then press the power/sleep button on the top right side of you phone. The screen will flash white for a moment just like a camera’s flash and the picture has been taken. To view the picture simply go to your homepage, go to your pictures, and then visit the Camera Roll folder, You can also touch and hold on a picture while browsing with safari, a box will pop up and ask you if you wish to save this image, just tap yes and it’ll be saved in your Camera Role.
And lastly
Another interesting thing about the iPhone is its adaptability to all light intensities, if it’s bright outside the back lights dims and if you’re in a darker room the backlights will glow brighter. The way it senses this is the changing light has a small sensor in the top left hand corner of your phone.
Directly beside the light sensor is another sensor. When you put you the phone to your ear to make a phone call you don’t want your cheek accidently tapping the End call button and have your conversation cut off. If this sensor detects that your face is close to the phone and that you’re in the middle of making a phone call it will freeze all the on screen options rendering them untapable until your head is well away from your phone. (Well now, how about that?)

vlc4iphone is a port of VideoLAN VLC media player’s source code to the iPhone and iPod Touch. This port was developed by ZodTTD. The initial intention of this port was/is to allow for less restrictions on formats played on the iPhone and iPod Touch, allow playback of media without syncing to iTunes, and streaming audio and video over HTTP/MMS/RTSP.
vlc4iphone is installed via Cydia only on jailbroken iPhones. It supports the following formats: MPEG (ES,PS,TS,PVA,MP3), AVI, ASF, WMV, WMA, MP4, MOV, 3GP, OGG, OGM, Annodex, MKV, WAV (incuding DTS), DTS, AAC, AC3/A52, FLAC, FLV, MXF, Nut, Standard MIDI / SMF, and Creative™ Voice.
You can also use other applications while listening to vlc4iphone, from Cydia download and install “Backgrounder” this enables you to run processes in the background so you can listen to vlc4iphone and use other applications as well. However doing this can cause your iPhone / iPod Touch’s memory to become overloaded and it will start to force shutdown applications to free up memory.
As of writing this, I have not yet tested vlc4iphone. It is a 7mb download.

I never thought I’d need this until I discovered that my 2 year old daughter knows hows to operate my iPhone. At 2 years old she knows how to slide the slider with her little fingers, open Photos and browse the photos, which of course I dont mind but occassionally she goes into PHONE and manages to make calls and this is where I draw the line. I’ve now had to resort to putting a Passcode Lock on my phone. She still tries though. Here is a tutorial on how to enable the Passcode Lock. There is a nice feature as well in that after 10 wrongs attempts then all your data will be erased, which is ONLY useful if your iPhone gets stolen.

We did an article on the new coating on the iPhone 3GS a while ago, but there have been reports of this coating actually wearing off. There is a forum about the coating wearing off but it also seems to be just a one off problem. If this happens to you when we eventually get the iPhone3GS here, just tale it to an Apple store and hopefully they will replace it for you.

I’m really trying hard to justify why one would buy this app for $99. Let me explain what it actually does. RunPee tells you which points in a movie you can safely ‘run’ and ‘pee’ without missing a hugely important plot point. Got it? Once again….. RunPee tells you which points in a movie you can safely ‘run’ and ‘pee’ without missing a hugely important plot point. So you take out your iPhone, run the app and select the movie you going to watch, then it will tell you at which point you can go and pee. Now, if you are in a movie house (Ster Kinekor) you probably would pee before the movie. IF you are watching the movie anywhere else, what happened to the old faithful “PAUSE” or “STOP” or “REWIND”. Oh and the features are:
Each PeeTime tells you:
- Approximately how many minutes into the movie each PeeTime is.
- Cue: what happens in the movie to let you know when that Pee Time begins.
- How long the Pee Time lasts – so you know how many minutes you have before missing something important
- And best of all: exactly what you’ll miss while you’re away
Is this worth it? Is it just me or with the fact that most movies today are such B Rate that you might as well take a Pee and a …….
What do you think? Would you pay for it and actually use it?

Some iPhone 3G S smartphones are overheating to the point of discoloration, (see picture below) which may be attributed to the new longer-lasting battery.
Everyone knows the Apple iPhone 3G S is hot, but some are finding it unbearably so. Some white iPhones are reportedly overheating to the point of causing pink or brown discoloration on the back of the device.
The French tech first reported the story on June 26, including images of lightly discolored phones, and some people have experienced a similar problem, that you couldn’t even put it against the cheek
In one case, the person was using it while it was charging. If that turns out to be true, If you have a problem in the design of a series of batteries, it’s probably going to be spread to tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, and maybe more.”
Just in case heating problems should arise due to, say, summer, Apple issued a common-sense-encouraging announcement on June 25, stating that iPhone 3G and 3G S should be kept in temperatures between 32 and 95 degrees F. Apple has warned that, should the device exceed normal temperatures, the device may stop charging, the display may dim, there will be a weak cellular signal and a “Temperature” warning screen will appear on the device. What can trigger the Temperature warning? Leaving the device in a car on a hot day and leaving it in direct sunlight for extended amounts of time, Apple states in the notice. But then it also adds to the list, “Using certain applications in hot conditions or direct sunlight for long periods of time, such as GPS tracking in a car on a sunny day or listening to music while in direct sunlight.”
Overheating batteries can be very dangerous — they’ve been known to cause fires and even lead to injuries. If the problem persists, a vexing problem for Apple could be that since the iPhone battery is not removable, entire devices would need to be returned. However, an analyst and Apple specialist with Technology Business Research, doesn’t expect the issue to escalate so far.
Does your iPhone get hot? Let us know.

Apple released the latest OS 3.0 for the iphone2G, 3G and the new iphone 3GS which includes MMS. Unfortunately MMS was not activated for the iPhone2G… until now. ActivateMMS2G is a little activation app that allows MMS on your iPhone2G with firmware 3.0. You have to however have a jailbroken iPhone (another reason why jailbreaking your iPhone is the best thing you could do). The patch will NOT automatically find vodacom or MTN’s MMS settings but we will find out the correct settings and be sure to let you know.
Step One
Press to launch Cydia from your SpringBoard
Step Two
Press to select the Sections tab at the bottom of the screen
Step Three
Press to select Messaging from the list of Categories
Step Four
Press to select ActivateMMS2G from the list of Packages
Step Five
Press the Install button at the top right of the screen
Step Six
Press the Confirm button at the top right to begin installation.
Step Seven
Once installation has completed successfully press the large Reboot Device button.
Step Eight
You iPhone will now be automatically restarted. Once the reboot has completed tap to open the messages application from the Springboard.
Notice you now have MMS capabilities. Please be aware that your cellular provider may charge an additional fee for using MMS. Please contact them before send an MMS to verify charges.
Thanks go out to geniusan the author of this patch!

iClarified has posted a bunch of really good tutorials on how to unlock and jailbreak the new iPhone 3.0 OS. As of writing this, there is still no unlock for the iPhone 3G, unless you got your iphone through Vodacom. If you bought your iPhone 3G overseas then you will have to wait for the unlock software (ULTRASNOW) to be released – which should be any day now. Below is a list of tutorials from iClarified.
